I firmly believe in this quote taken from Helen Keller’s work because my life experiences have shown me this truth.

Before being admitted to ×××A, I was a student of science majoring in physics, chemistry, and mathematics in my high school. I had never thought that I would choose law my specialty. I was told that I would develop a scientific background while also learning to think more logically and reasonably. But unfortunately I failed in the national college entrance examination. My original dream has to be changed at the age of sixteen. At first, I was very sad. It seems that the life had turned to grey. What was worse is that my abilities in mathematics and physics did not help me much with History and Law studies. I did not do well in my first half semester at ×××A. However, with my strong spirit of perseverance, I doubled my efforts in order to keep up with my classmates. I was able to use my abilities in analytical thinking to develop an effective and efficient personal study plan for myself, which enabled me to rise to the top ten out of four hundred students.

Once again I had been able to turn a negative situation into a positive one. In changing from a science major to law studies, I was able to add creative thinking in addition to my extremely strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Since I got used to the law studies in ECUPSL, I took some course on accounting in ×××C as well. Based on the combined strength of legal theories and cases, sociology, commerce, economics etc, my major possesses an interdisciplinary nature. I found this genre of studies did away with the narrow-mindedness inherent in the pursuit of studies in a single area and the extensive knowledge provided me with a diverse background upon which to prepare for a qualified legal expert.

The deeper I learned about the law, the more I was fascinated by it. Sometimes I even cracked jokes with my friends that I was destined to be a legal expert. During my undergraduate, I received comprehensive academic training as a law student through coursework in a whole spectrum of specialized subject, excelling particularly in private international law, international economic law, intellectual property law, civil law, criminal law, civil procedure law, criminal procedure law. My academic transcript will indicate both the breadth and the depth of my curriculum. My scholastic aptitudes are indicated by the following statistics—a GPA of 3.68, a 5% ranking. My numerous scholarships and honors also attested to my excellence and academic achievements. The systematic legal trainings I received in ×××A enabled me to develop a comprehensive understanding of my specialty. Those trainings also helped me establish a solid professional foundation which I appreciated very much.

Among all the courses I have taken, I had great interests in international and comparative law. Although my major is economic law, I did a good job in the courses concerning international law, such as private international law and international economic law, which could be indicated by the high score in each course. Besides, when I was collecting the data from the website for my graduate thesis on the regulation of transfer-pricing, I was surprised to find that China had integrated into the world so well in the field of transfer-pricing that the regulations made in China highly conformed to that of OECD and most other countries in the world. This experience also made me realize that expertise in international law is not a necessity only for those who aspire for an international legal career, but a requirement for any prospective legal experts. With the advent of globalization and information technology, international law would play increasingly important role in the world. When it comes to my interest in comparative legal systems, it is related to my undergraduate experience of taking a course on studying American contract laws and comparing it with that of China. Doing in-depth research on different systems of contract law not only reinforced my already serious interest in law as a whole, but also deepened my understanding of the differences between the Continental Legal System and the Anglo-American Legal System pertaining to contract laws. By the time this course was finished, I found myself attracted by the charm of comparative law studies and potentially capable of undertaking theoretical analysis in it. It is precisely based on those important experiences that I think I am qualified for advanced studies in international and comparative law.

Now I am a senior student ready for advanced study in your distinguished university. It has been my dream to pursue graduate study in your prestigious school. I am attracted by the first class research and well-rounded program, which will enable me to tap my potential to the full. The outstanding faculty and agreeable research environment are major attractions as well. Another great thing about studying in ×××B is that I can interact with other intellectual people and roam in cosmos of knowledge. Moreover, located at the financial center M which has strongest ties with Europe, particularly with the historically trading pioneers like Portugal, makes the program more unique and attractive compared with other programs offered in elsewhere.

In my future program, I would like to proceed according to this plan. First I would concentrate on learning methodologies in doing international legal studies, reflecting on the legal instruments and legal features with consideration of the historical backgrounds and the theoretical underpinnings. After laying this foundation, I would focus on the courses given. All the courses are so attractive that I am unable to hold myself back to start to learning. And I have also fully equipped for adapting to new methods of teaching in your renowned university which would be different from that in my university. Although I had not participated in such kind of program before, my experience of taking courses taught in English and discussing cases with professors and fellows in the legal aid center would make me more competent to the studies.

Apart from studying the course in context, I am also prepared for designing and implementing various research projects, focusing on contemporary issues. Recently, I am concentrating on things like the relationship between EU law and WTO law. With your strong faculty and advanced pedagogical resources, I believe I can develop an in-depth understanding of the pertinent subjects. Maybe I will face many difficulties. Maybe it will be another challenge for me. But with the self-discipline and intelligence, I am convinced that I will savor the rewarding joy as I surmount limitations and challenges. All I need is an opportunity. It is sincerely expected that serious considerations will be given to my application.
