The Mercers Scholarship has been established by the Mercers Company, the premier livery company of the City of London, to assist talented students from less affluent backgrounds and inner-city areas in the United Kingdom to take up a full time place on the MSc City Design and Social Science.
Terms and conditions

This award is open to students who are deemed by the School to be Home UK applicants under the guidelines used for the purposes of admissions fees, though applicants may be graduates of any university.
Awardees will be selected using needs and merit based criteria, and the selectors will take into account the donor's wish to help those from "inner-city areas".
Up to two awards will be made per year, depending on the merits of candidates (minimum award £15,000, maximum £30,000).
The award must be used towards the payment of tuition fees for the MSc City Design and Social Science, but should the award made exceed the cost of the fees, the excess may be spent by the awardee as he/she sees fit on general maintenance.
Each scholarship is tenable for one year of full-time study only.
This award is not open to part time students.
Awards shall only be made if there are candidates of sufficient merit.

How to applyTo apply for this scholarship, you must download and complete an application form. By completing this form, you will ensure that you receive consideration for this and any other award(s) which you meet the eligibility criteria for.
The deadline for the receipt of applications is: 01 June 2007.

IC Sports Development - Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS)Two of the main TASS objectives are:

To enhance the extent and quality of partnership working between National Governing Bodies of Sport and the Further and Higher Education sectors.
To enhance the capability of the Further and Higher Education sectors to flexibly support and cater for, to an agreed standard, the needs of talented young athletes.

What is the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS)?

TASS is a Government funded programme that represents a unique partnership between sport and higher and further education.
TASS is about developing talent today for sporting success tomorrow.
TASS bridges the gap in sports talent development pathway between junior representative sport and world-class levels for our most talented 16 to 25 year old sportspeople.
The TASS programme has been created to help hundreds to fulfil their sporting potential by maintaining a sensible balance between academic life and employment whilst training and competing as a performance athlete.
The programme distributes awards to talented athletes that are committed to combining their sport and education. It aims to reduce the drop out of talented athletes from sport and supports and develops the talent of today for sporting success in the future.

What is Professional and Athlete Life Skills (PALS)?As a TASS athlete you will receive some additional support to help you juggle the many commitments in your life and improve your performance as an elite athlete. PALS is a scheme based on the UK Sport Performance Lifestyle programme and is exclusively for TASS athletes.

PALS is a joint initiative between TASS and University College Sport (UCS) and is divided into two areas:

Workshops

How are TASS athletes identified?TASS aims to help hundreds of talented young sportspeople every year to develop in their sport, and it is the sport's National Governing Bodies that select eligible athletes for an appropriate award.

How long does the award last?
A TASS award is made annually at the start of the academic year.

What support do athletes receive from TASS?
TASS athletes that are selected for an award will receive sporting services to the value of £3000.

Who provides the sporting services to TASS athletes?
Primarily, sporting services will be provided by higher and further educational establishments. National Governing Bodies may also act as a service provider.

Can I apply for a TASS award?
All athletes are nominated by their respective National Governing Bodies.

Additional Athlete Support (AAS)
TASS is committed to offering the best possible support to its athletes to ensure they can meet their sporting potential. While the awards TASS makes to athletes helps support their sporting costs and support services, TASS understands that athletes have a number of equally important goals, such as their academic development. Therefore with the support of private donors and SportsAid, TASS has established the Additional Athlete Support (AAS) Fund to provide additional support to TASS athletes in non-sporting areas.

The purpose of the fund is to financially assist TASS athletes who are experiencing difficulties that may result in them dropping out of the TASS programme or education. Grants will normally be awarded up to the value of £1000.

Applications for an award from the Additional Athlete Support Fund (AAS) can be made by individual athletes, parents/guardians, coaches or a representative from a National Governing Body.

Type of Awards
All TASS Athletes are eligible to apply for hardship assistance and in addition:-

Grants are available for:
Educational support - Grants can be awarded to athletes to allow them to remain in education if they are experiencing financial difficulties. The Grant can be used to assist with course materials and/or travel to college.
Grants are available to:
Enable an athlete to remain in education by paying for living costs, accommodation and course equipment. Applications cannot be made to the fund until the athlete has exhausted all other support routes, such as Student Loans and Hardship Grants. The Grant can be used to pay for living costs, accommodation and course equipment.
TASS 2012 - Grants are available to:
Cover additional educational costs incurred by the athlete due to their sporting programme. The Grant is to ensure their education does not suffer as they undertake their 2012 programme. The Grant can be used to pay for private tuition, access to distance learning courses and equipment.
TASS Disabled Athletes - Grants are available to:
All TASS disabled athletes who require an assistor/carer in order to train or compete in their sport. The Grant can be used to pay for an assistor's time, travel, accommodation and food. The funds for these awards are provided by SportsAid.

TASS will also consider applications for other non-sporting costs an athlete may occur.

Application datesA TASS athlete will only be entitled to one AAS award per year. The TASS operational year is from 1st August to 31st July.

Rowing Scholarships

An Illustrious historyFounded 12 December 1919, Imperial first won Henley Royal Regatta in 1923. Since then Imperial has won Henley Women’s Regatta six times, the Head of the River Race four times, Henley Royal Regatta twenty times, including the Grand Challenge Cup in 1996, and has had over fifty students represent Great Britain and win medals. Three Gold medallists and the coach from the men’s eight in the Sydney Games were from Imperial.

Scholarships at Warwick

Thinking of applying to University?

Worried that you and your family may not be able to afford it?

You may be eligible for a scholarship if you come to study at the University of Warwick.

The value of these scholarships will be guaranteed at £1,000 for each year of a three or four year course. Students who are eligible for a £1,000 scholarship and who are assessed as independent students by their Local Authority, or who are from families in receipt of means tested benefits or Working or Pension Tax Credits, are encouraged to apply for an Individual Donor Scholarship. If you are an independent student, the LA (or the SLC) will not take your parents’ or spouse’s income into account in a financial assessment.
If you are successful in your Individual Donor Scholarship application, your original £1,000 pa scholarship will be upgraded to a total of up to £2,000 a year. All of the scholarships are funded by Warwick alumni (former students) and friends (individuals and organisations) of the University.
The original scholarships scheme was founded by the Warwick Graduates’ Association (WGA) and the first WGA Scholarships were awarded in Autumn 2000. The Warwick Graduates’ Association (WGA) exists to promote the work and welfare of the University. The first scholarships were made available through a combination of surplus funds from the WGA subscription membership and via donations to the University of Warwick Annual Fund made by graduates and friends and given specifically to help in the area of student support. Since the year 2000, funds from other sources have become available to allow for the creation of additional new scholarships each year. (See paragraph 6)
Who will receive a scholarship?A Scholarship at Warwick of £1,000 pa will be awarded to students who satisfy the following criteria:

Are ordinarily resident in the UK and eligible to pay variable tuition fees at the rate of £3,070 (£1,225 for students on 2+2 courses) for the 2007-2008 academic year.
Are applying to their Local Education Authority for student financial support as a home student.
Accept an offer of a place on a full-time undergraduate course at Warwick commencing in October 2007.
Have not previously studied for a first degree.
Come from a family where the household income entitles the student to a full £2,765 Government Maintenance Grant or Special Support Grant for the 2007-2008 academic year.

What is the application procedure?You do not need to complete a form for a Scholarship at Warwick. All the information we need to award and pay the scholarships can be forwarded directly to the University by the Student Loans Company. However, in order that this exchange of information can take place, it is most important that you, and your parents if you are aged under 25, have agreed to data sharing on your application for student support. If you do not agree to data sharing, we will be unable to determine your eligibility for a scholarship.
How will I be notified?We will write to you to confirm the details of your scholarship as soon as you have satisfied the conditions of your offer and we have received details of your family income from the Student Loans Company. Once you have confirmed your acceptance of the scholarship you will receive a letter from the Student Loans Company (on behalf of the University) giving the dates when payments will be made.
How will I be paid?Scholarships are paid in three termly instalments directly into your bank account by the Student Loans Company. The first payment will be made as soon as you have registered at the University and are attending your course.
Individual Donor Scholarships:Through the generosity of individual Warwick graduates and friends, as well as trusts and corporate sponsors, Scholarships at Warwick also provide a limited number of Individual Donor Scholarships of up to £2,000 a year.

Graduate Study - MSc in Communications EngineeringFull PhD Scholarship in the Communications GroupAbout the ScholarshipEach year, the most promising student on the Communications Engineering course will be awarded a full scholarship to study for a PhD in the electronics department at the University of York. This scholarship will pay all of the course fees and most of the living expenses for the further three years of study required for the PhD. The scholarship will be awarded during August, based on progress in assessments and the project up to this time. (This allows study on the PhD to commence immediately after the end of the MSc course.)
Opportunities exist for earning additional money within the University (see York UniJobs), and dependent on available funding, there may be opportunities to earn money working on projects within the communications, physical layer and media technology groups.
The students awarded this scholarship will be expected to help with the running of the course: including supervising students in some of the laboratory sessions, and acting as a mentor to other students with day-to-day problems of living at York, especially at the beginning of the academic year.

University of Bristol BursariesHow do I know if I am eligible for the University of Bristol bursary?Full-time Home UK students on undergraduate programmes, as well as on the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), who expect to receive either the full or partial maintenance grant or special support grant from their Local Authority will be eligible for the University of Bristol's bursary.
How much is it worth?Those students in receipt of the full maintenance grant or special support grant will be entitled to receive the full University of Bristol bursary worth £1,135. This comprises of a cash bursary worth £1,025 per year (students should refer to their programme/faculty handbook for further details) plus an optional free sports pass, notionally worth £110 per year.
Those students in receipt of a partial maintenance grant or special support grant will be entitled to receive the partial University of Bristol bursary worth £725. This comprises of a cash bursary worth £615 per year (students should refer to their programme/faculty handbook for further details) plus an optional free sports pass, notionally worth £110 per year.
I have also heard about a local bursary, what is this?Top-up bursaries of £1,025 a year are available to local students (currently identified as those students resident in the BA or BS postal code areas at the time of UCAS application). This bursary is paid in addition to the main University of Bristol bursary described previously.
Is there a deadline date to claim my 2007/08 University of Bristol Bursary?Yes. Students must have claimed their University of Bristol bursary and their Local bursary (if applicable) by 20 June 2008. Only very exceptional cases may be processed after this date.
Are there any other qualifying criteria for the local bursary?As with the main University of Bristol bursary, the local bursary is available to full-time, home UK students on undergraduate programmes who expect to receive either the full or partial maintenance grant or special support grant from their Local Authority.
However, the local bursary is not available to students on the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) course.
Do I need to complete a separate application form to apply for the bursary?No. The Local Authority assesses your entitlement to a maintenance or special support grant based on your household income, and this is paid to you via the Student Loans Company (SLC). Provided you have given the SLC your consent to share your household income details, the SLC will confirm your household income electronically to the University of Bristol.
Do I need to give my consent to share this information?Yes. If you do not provide your consent to share this information to the SLC, the University of Bristol will not know your household income. As a result, we will not be able to determine whether you are entitled to a maintenance or special support grant and will not therefore be able to award you a bursary.
How do I give my consent to share this information?Most students will already have applied for statutory support from their Local Authority via the PN1 application form (for new students), or the PR1 application form (for returning students). Section 13 of these forms, 'bursary consent statements', asked the student and their parent(s)/sponsor(s) to sign if they wished to give their consent to share details of their household income with the institution.
If you and your parent(s)/sponsor(s) have all signed this section, then you have given your consent to share and the University of Bristol will receive this information electronically from the SLC.
I didn't sign section 13 of the form and neither did my parents, is it too late to give consent now?No, it isn't too late, but call the SLC as soon as possible. You and your parent(s) can contact the SLC at any time during the year to give consent.

To confirm your identity, you and your parent(s) will need to have your Automated Response Numbers (ART ID) to hand. You will also need to know your secret answers that will have been given to you and your parent(s) by the SLC. You and your family members will each have your own ART ID and secret answer.
What will happen once the University of Bristol receives details of my entitlement to a maintenance grant or special support grant from the SLC?You will be written to as soon as possible in the first few weeks of term to confirm your bursary award. If you have applied late for statutory support or have given your consent to share your information late, the notification of your award will be delayed.
How will the bursary be paid?The bursary will be paid directly into your bank account via a Bank Automated Credit (BACS) payment.
How do I give the University of Bristol my bank details?You need to visit the University of Bristol's secure Student Info web page and supply accurate bank account and sort code details. This will enable the University of Bristol to pay the bursary into your nominated account.
When will I receive payment of my University of Bristol bursary?The total award will be paid in three instalments in December, March and May as long as you are still registered on your course at the time of payment.
If you also qualify for the £1,025 local bursary, this will also be split into three instalments and paid at the same time as your other bursary payments.
What is the optional sports pass?If you are in receipt of any amount of maintenance or special support grant, you are entitled to an optional sports pass, notionally valued at £110.
How do I claim it?You apply for your sports pass at the same time as you apply for your undergraduate student card.
You will receive this information in your pre-arrival pack. When you complete the form, you need to tick the box that indicates that you are eligible for a maintenance grant, or special support grant.
What if I have not yet received my student support notification?If you are expecting to receive a maintenance grant, or special support grant, but have not yet received your student support notification, you can still tick this box.
What if I do not want to receive the Sports Pass? Will I get the money instead?If you do not wish to receive the Sports Pass, but you are in receipt of a maintenance or special support grant, you will not get an extra £110. The Sports Pass is optional; if you do not want it, you do not have to have it. You will still receive the rest of your bursary package.
What if my student support notification is late, and I tick that I expect to receive a maintenance grant/special support grant, apply for my free Sports Pass, but then find out I am not eligible later on in the year?If you find out you are not eligible for a free Sports Pass, but have received one anyway, you will be given the opportunity to pay for your pass or you will have your pass cancelled.
If I qualify for a maintenance grant or special support grant and I only give my consent to share part-way through the academic year, will this affect payment of my University of Bristol bursary?The University of Bristol bursary will still be paid in full, but later than the majority of students who gave their consent to share at the outset.
I have not yet applied for statutory support from my Local Authority. How can I find out if I might qualify for a maintenance grant or special support grant and is it too late to apply?No, it is not too late – but apply now!
You can actually apply for statutory support up to nine months after the start of your academic year. However, each year you should apply as early as possible to ensure that your funding is place for the start of the academic year.
You should contact your Local Authority to establish whether you might be eligible for the maintenance grant or special support grant. You can find the contact details of your Local Authority at the Student Support Direct website, where you can also submit an on-line application.
The University’s help from the UK government for UK students web page provides a guide to the household income threshold levels which determine Government grants and other support.
Will a late application to my local authority for statutory support affect my entitlement for a bursary from the University of Bristol?No, provided you are confirmed as eligible for a bursary before the deadline date of 20 June 2008.
As long as you qualify for a maintenance or special support grant and give your consent for the SLC to share this information, the University of Bristol will still pay you a bursary before 20 June 2008. However, your payments will be delayed, so apply as soon as you can.
I started my course in 2006 as a 'new system' student, but I failed my first year and I am having to repeat the year again. Am I still eligible for the University of Bristol Bursary?Provided your Local Authority have agreed to continue to pay you either a maintenance or special support grant on your repeat year, then you will still be entitled to receive the main University of Bristol bursary (and the local postcode bursary – if applicable).
It is at the discretion of the LA as to whether or not they will pay a maintenance or special support grant to a student who is repeating a year. The LA will take account of any extenuating circumstances when making their decision.
Students who are on a repeat year will need to provide paper proof to the Student Funding Office that their LA have agreed to pay them a grant on their repeat year.
Great Western ScholarshipsI was nominated for a Great Western Scholarship – what happens now?If you have met or exceeded your academic offer, you will receive a letter confirming your Great Western Scholarship.
What if I did not meet my academic offer?Unfortunately your Great Western Scholarship offer will be withdrawn. You will need to contact Admissions on 0117 331 7185 to confirm whether or not you still have a place at the University of Bristol.
How much is my Great Western Scholarship worth?If you are in receipt of the maintenance or special support grant, your Great Western Scholarship will be worth £2,560 per annum. If you are not in receipt of either one of these grants, your scholarship will be worth £515 per annum.
How will you know that I am entitled to a maintenance or special support grant?Your Local Authority (LA) assesses your entitlement to a maintenance or special support grant. Provided you (and your parent(s)/sponsor(s)) have given your consent to share your household income details, then this information will be released electronically to the University of Bristol via the Student Loans Company (see previous sections for more information on giving your consent to share). We will be able to determine your entitlement to a maintenance or special support grant from your household income.
When will I receive my Great Western Scholarship?If you are in receipt of the Great Western Scholarship of £2,560, you will receive payment in three instalments in December, March and May.

Further questionsI haven't yet organised a bank account. Which one do you recommend?Choose a bank and set up an account before you start your course. The SLC will need you to provide them with bank account details before the start of term, in order to pay you your grant and loan entitlements at the start of the first term.
There are numerous banks to choose from and each one has different facilities to offer, in terms of the free overdraft facilities they provide, the interest rates they charge, the introductory benefits which they provide and so on. You will need to 'shop around' to find the bank that gives you the best deal.
Once you have chosen your preferred bank and set up your account details, make sure you update your details at Student Info.
What happens if I supply you with incorrect bank details?Please ensure you supply an accurate bank account number and sort code in the first instance. If you supply incorrect bank details or change banks without updating Student Info, your bursary payment will fail.
If the payment fails, we will write to you as soon as possible to confirm the reason why. If you supply incorrect bank details, we may have to pay the first bursary instalment by cheque instead of by BACS, until we receive your correct bank details.
