Statement of Purpose
I don't want to live in a comfortable environment like most people;I would rather be a boat to navigate in surge water than hide in harbor; I would rather accept new challenges every day than live in a tedious life. Then the compass of my life is to work wonders by computer. Now, after the initial mysticism of computer science was gradually unveiled, my curiosity remains the same. It is time for me to realize my dream.

With strong interest in computer science, I got admission from Dalian University, which is one of the best technology universities in China. For my excellent record as a freshman, I was chosen to do further research in Software Engineering Department. From then on, I accepted strict training on both English and computer skills. Our university also provided us serious cathedras on the latest scientific research fruit and technique experience from members of IBM, Microsoft, HP, etc. These all brought me infinite brightness and impetus. For my zest and hard working on computer science, though in fierce competition, I was the top one among 100 students and most of my major records were A. Over the past years I have accumulated abundant research experience by participating in a number of research projects. Also, I have perused various data and literature and finished lots of projects. When I was a sophomore, our team finished a personnel management system of a service department in Dalian and also a logistical system in a CIQ, which were done with JAVA and Oracle. When I was a junior, I showed my zest on Network. I designed and implemented Internet e-mail Client and Server in Java of SMTP and POP3.

During my undergraduate study, Computer Network and NP-HARD became my research emphases. I was chosen in IBM Network Engineering Lab to do researches. By analyzing many typical hierarchical protocols of wireless sensor network, we created our “ACRBOH”, a new fault tolerant routing protocol for sensor network. Through these researches, I learned carrying through Network Simulation and Emulation with NS. Moreover, I mastered tcl script language and some common used software under UNIX, all of which established firm basic for my research. During two years research, I have published three papers, two of them are Chinese and the other is English. They are: “Research of Hidden Troubles and defense measures based on TCP/IP”, “A Strategy Supporting Replication Management in Data Grid Based on P2P” and “A Fault Tolerant Routing Protocol of Wireless Sensor Network”. I also had some work experience and benefited a lot. From teaching assistant and vice director of Innovation Center to research assistant of two professors, I had opportunities tointegrate theory with practice, which was both challenge and valuable experience for me.

With a broad range of knowledge of this field and other relative fields, I tried every possible means to make larger progress. Though computer science has developed greatly on many application fields, creation is still badly needed at current times. Creation could be broken through at math, physics, chemistry, etc. I discovered that many problems could be solved by math measure and analysis. So I took some courses provided by Mathematics Department in our university and also taught combination Math by myself. During study of math, I mastered the information on other fields such as AI. In addition to, I applied Advanced Math, Linear Programming and Linear Algebra, which were used to solve a practical economic problem in 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and won the First Prize at the National Math Modeling Contest.

I am strongly willing to enter your university as a Ph.D student to achieve my goal. My interests lie in: Computer Network, Database Management and Applications, Algorithms Complexity and AI. I believe my dream may come true in your university. There are my favorable professors in your school, after I read their papers; I’d like to show my trust for your academic atmosphere and research environment. If I am lucky enough to be admitted and financially supported by VY, I would like to spend three to four years pursuing my Ph.D. in the above areas. With the training that goes into such an advanced degree, I think I will be able to take great strides towards fulfilling my professional objective. When I accomplish it, I am sure that I will be standing on the cutting-edge of the computer science.
